Homes delivered through permitted development make an important contribution housing needs by making effective use of existing buildings, allowing them to be changed into homes without the need to go through a full planning application.

The Government has announced new measures which mean all new homes in England delivered through these rights will have to meet the Nationally Described Space Standard from 6 April 2021, ensuring they provide proper living space.

This change builds on reforms introduced by the government last summer to ensure that all new homes delivered through permitted development provide adequate natural light. See our blog post on 14/07/2020.
